Electrifying, exact, eclectic, stunning—Kaylene Peoples is the artist who puts it all together as one of America’s most influential jazz vocalists-flutists. Come out and see her perform Wednesday, August 22, 2012, 7:00 PM at The Leimert Park Summer Jazz Concert Series located at 4323 Leimert Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008.

This is going to be an entertaining evening with outstanding acoustic jazz. The 5-octave, beautifully nuanced jazz chantuese and flutist Kaylene Peoples will give you a night to remember. Her performance defines 1960s jazz with intricate arrangements, virtuoso soloing, scatting, and hauntingly beautiful vocals, promising you an “authentic” classic and straight-ahead jazz experience. Kaylene combines mixed meters, flute solos, expressive, theatrical lyricisms, and unique arrangements. Jazz audiences love her style—they love her warm welcoming stage persona—they love how she makes them feel during her performances—and most of all, when the show is over, they love the fact that they will carry with them a piece of this talented artist’s soul.

“As I chisel my art, I am becoming more in tune with what resonates with people. Whether they are jazz lovers or not, I discovered that if I sing and play from my heart, music becomes a universal language,” asserts Kaylene Peoples.

For this concert series, Kaylene Peoples brings with her a phenomenal quartet of virtuoso players: Bassist Del Atkins, guitarist Mark Hammond, pianist Kevin Flournoy, and drummer Tony Moore. Each player is a recognized jazz force in his own right. The August 22 performance is dedicated to Parkside EDC’s mission: The mentorship and development of Leimert Park youth with proceeds going to the EDC Scholarship Fund.

“I am excited to perform some great music at the Leimert Park Summer Jazz Concert Series. The band and I are looking forward to playing our most recent recording, “Spain,” as well as other well-loved songs. I am hoping that the Leimert Park youth in attendance that evening will be inspired to learn more about jazz and develop their own brand of whatever truly moves them.”—Kaylene Peoples

Kaylene Peoples joins a lineup of great jazz musicians who have already performed this summer in the jazz concert series. They are, Barbara Morrison, Sherry Williams, Andre Delano, Lao Tizer, Mark Allen Felton, and others.
